A story of power and plotting, Richard II is the first of Shakespeare's four plays about the House of Lancaster. This play is a history play based on the life of King Richard ll of England. The story spans the last two years of life of Richard ll, during which Richard calls a “trial by battle” between two men thought to be responsible for squandering money and causing his uncle’s death. Richard then stops the battle to banish the men, causing the suspicion to be placed on himself and the son of his Uncle begins to reclaim the lands and works to overthrow Richard ll so that he may become King Henry lV.
