Lloyd Hara:

Lloyd Hara, a respected veteran public official, was reelected as King County Assessor on November 2011.

Hara (pronounced Har-ah) is a tireless advocate for taxpayers and a champion of openness and transparency for government agencies. He most recently served as a Seattle Port Commissioner, bringing new levels of accountability and leadership to the Port.

"I am honored to serve the people of this great county as their county assessor and I make a pledge to them to operate this office in a manner that treats all taxpayers fairly and with the respect they deserve."

Lloyd Hara was King County's youngest auditor, an award winning nationally recognized Seattle City Treasurer, and a public finance expert.

A Seattle native, Hara graduated from Roosevelt High School and the University of Washington, where he obtained a BA in economics with a foreign trade emphasis and a Master's Degree in Public Administration.

His distinguished record of public service spans more than 40 years. He served in the US Army as a Lt. Colonel and retired from the Army Reserve.

He served four terms as Seattle City Treasurer from 1980-1992, winning accolades from the Government Finance Officers Association, the Association of Government Accountants and the Municipal Treasurers Association of the US and Canada. He is a past president of the organization.

He led the Northwest Municipal Treasurer's Institute and the Northwest Clerks Institute, which provides leadership and technical training for local government employees at Seattle University's Institute of Public Service.
