Hello! We hope you’ll join Tahoma High School’s Student Advocates for Mental Health and Addiction (SAMHA) Club in partnership with the Steered Straight Organization (founded in 2000) on March 22nd from 5-6 PM in the Main Gym at Tahoma High School.
We have seen the impact that drugs and alcohol have had on our community and our students. Steered Straight’s purpose with students is to reach youth and young adults through motivational speaking, life-sharing seminars and interactive curriculum in order to:
* Provide youth with real-life examples of negative consequences that resulted from making poor decisions due to substance use and abuse.
* Impact the minds of youth to steer their lives in positive ways and encourage them to make positive life-choices.
* Give kids the ability to develop a sense of understanding about the positive and negative choices in their lives.
* Reduce the number of youth who end up in the criminal justice system due to making poor decisions involving drugs and alcohol.
This community event will be hosted by Steered Straight’s Michael Deleon as he dives into the importance of educating families and community members on the impact of drugs and alcohol and ways that they can help. Audience members will learn about the 40 developmental assets and how to use these protective factors in their families. The purpose of this session will be to gain a better understanding about the nature of substance abuse and addiction as well as tips, conversation points and advice as to how to better prevent drug and alcohol use from affecting your student.
Please use this form to sign you and your family up for this event. Appropriate for ages 13 and older.
