The City of Maple Valley seeks to hire a Part-Time Administrative Assistant I to perform routine clerical duties at the reception desk of City Hall.
Under the supervision of the City Clerk, The Administrative Assistant I answers phones; greets the public; maintains records; receipts incoming cash and checks; provides information about the City, the community, and various administrative processes of the department; assists with application processes specific to the assigned department; and performs other duties as assigned. This is part-time (.56) position and is an FLSA non-exempt position, eligible for overtime compensation and pro-rated benefits.
Among other job responsibilities, this position will:
Support the responsibilities of the Department and City Clerk to achieve goals, objectives and tasks
Answers telephones, including overflow calls from the Police Department, greets office visitors, provides routine information to the public, takes messages or refers callers to appropriate personnel, opens and distributes mail, receives packages
Types forms, memoranda, reports, and other materials from copy and rough draft; proofs and edits documents as assigned
Provides Notary Services as requested by staff or citizens
Receipts, reconciles and prepares for deposit incoming checks and cash and prepares daily recap reports for Finance Department
Issues over-the-counter licenses or permits as assigned (e.g. in the Office of the City Manager this position would issue pet licenses after verifying application materials), monitors supplies, and prepares daily recap sheets as necessary

Ability to answer telephones and greet the public with diplomacy, professionalism, and courtesy; ability to provide routine information to callers, accurately take and relay messages or refer calls or visitors to the appropriate individual as needed
A combination equivalent to: graduation from high school with course work in general office practices such as filing, business math, and two years office/clerical experience, preferably with at least one year experience in a municipal government environment
Competency in personal computer and software programs (Microsoft Word for Windows, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, and Access are preferred) and ability to access information through the Internet
Must obtain Notary License within 6 months of employment
The work schedule for the Administrative Assistant I will be 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
The 2022 Part-time salary range is $28,234 – $35,736 ($24.24/hour – $30.68/hour), DOE.
