POSITION TITLE

POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of the District’s Financial Services team, your core responsibility is to manage and protect all assets of the District while providing transparency to our community to better serve those who serve our students. This position is responsible for all accounting and finance functions, analyses, controls, policies, and procedures throughout the District. The Accountant collaborates regularly with members of all departments/buildings in the District, as well as outside groups and stakeholders. The Accountant reports to the Chief Accountant, Assistant Director of Finance, and/or the Director of Finance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the maintenance, monitoring, and implementation of financial systems.
Assist in the annual budget and year end process and reporting requirements.
Process budget transfers, cash receipts, and journal entries regularly.
Prepare monthly and yearly financial projections and statements.
Perform regular internal audits and maintain accounting controls.
Maintain the district chart of accounts and create/monitor all account codes.
Maintain grant and donations tracking schedules while providing transparency to donors and recipients
Assist in training school and departmental staff to perform their accounting duties.
Provide ongoing education, advice, and direction to staff on accounting procedures and policies, including ASB.
Oversee all state, federal, and private audits.
Manage and assist with third party point of sale (POS) systems.
Prepare tax returns.
Prepare a variety of financial accounting and budgetary reports for submission to supervisor, district personnel, school board, and various state or local agencies.
Accumulate data and prepare narrative explanations using spreadsheet databases and word processing software.
Analyze various activities and programs to ascertain whether they comply with board directives and applicable federal, state, or local laws and regulations.
Evaluate and appraise the effectiveness of district accounting controls and the extent to which assets are safeguarded against fraud, waste, and abuse.
Attest to the reliability of financial information used for board and management decision-making.
Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
Conduct a strong central services public relations image including telephone procedures as well as public contact and pride in document productions.
Assist other personnel, with related tasks, as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities and for the enhancement of daily operations of the school district.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, or a closely related field is required.
Work experience as an accountant including general ledger functions, forecasting, and budgeting is preferred.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Extensive knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to accounting and internal auditing principals, techniques, and procedures.
Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data: ability to detect errors and verify data: ability to exercise independent judgment; and ability to make well-founded recommendations.
Ability to perform a variety of cost/benefit analyses and calculations.
Knowledge of spreadsheets software and ability to and create complex formulas.
Communicate effectively with staff and the general public through strong written and oral communication skills.
Assist with problem solving and developing alternative strategies.
Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to organize, set priorities, plan, and coordinate work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful, and courteous professional working relationships with a variety of people.
