About The Brass Key, Inc.Creating Unique Merchandise for over 30 Years
As far as we can remember there were dolls in our lives -- they were like a part of the family. In fact, we now have personal doll collections that span four generations. Because of our love for dolls, we decided to create our own line of porcelain dolls. Now we get to come to work and play with dolls -- isn't that a dream come true?
Judy & Mary
Brass Key started in the 1980's when the two sisters, Judy and Mary, designed and imported custom brass beds from Asia to the U.S. In 1985, the company signed a contract to supply its brass beds to Costco's 85 outlets.
Brass Key entered the toy market in 1987, when Nordstrom's requested a plush bear to be merchandised in its direct mail catalog as a coordinate to a clothing ensemble. The plush bear was a great success and its introduction into retail prompted Costco to order a plush bunny as a toy item. By 1992, sales had increased and toy became one of Costco’s top Holiday sellers.
With sales growing rapidly in the toy category, Brass Key moved from the brass bed business to the toy and collectible business, with a focus on porcelain dolls.
The Brass Key Porcelain Doll collection debuted in 1993. The Brass Key dolls outsold the competition 10 to 1, accounting for 34% of Target's overall (doll) toy sales. The formula for success: quality merchandise at an affordable price. The product selection has expanded to include vinyl dolls, tabletop accents, lighting accessories, glass ornaments and seasonal décor for the home and garden. In addition, The Brass Key now developes licensed products for nationally-known company's such as: The Walt Disney Company, Warner Brothers, United Media, Universal Studios, Classic Media, and Good Times.
