Reaching Your Goals . . . . .
By Karen Crowe, Board President
August is here, summer is almost over and school is just around the corner. Time flies so quickly that sometimes we forget to stop and think about our future and goals. Here’s a quote from one of my favorite books:
“The tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goals, the tragedy lies in not having any goals to reach. It isn’t a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream. It is not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideals, but it is a disaster to have not ideals to capture. It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have not stars to reach.” ~Dr. Benjamin Mays (The 5 Book by Dan Zadra)
This month’s member luncheon speaker, Matt Hoover, knows all about goals and taking control of his life. Matt is a winner of NBC’s series The Biggest Loser. What an amazing reminder that we do have control over our lives, both personally and professionally.
Certainly you would never set out on a task or job without a goal in mind. If you didn’t set a goal then you would never know when you reached the finish line. Why then would you run a business without a goal? Your goal may be to become the largest and most successful business in your industry, or it may be as simple as having financial security and the ability to put food on the table. Whatever your goal, it is important to remember that you have the ability to reach it if you take control. Failure is not an option.
Last month I talked about value and how the Chamber is focusing on providing more value to you as members and showing residents the value of supporting Chamber members. It is my goal as Chamber president to make changes to our organization over the next few months to enhance the value you receive. I don’t know that we can see the finish line; however we can see the mile markers. It is a goal we can reach by taking one step at a time.
I encourage you to find time in your busy schedule this month to attend the monthly luncheon on August 18th at 11:30 and listen to our inspirational speaker about how he achieved his goal. If it is difficult to take time out in the middle of your busy day, be sure to come support The Blind Lady, Ann Taylor for her ribbon cutting and After Hours event on August 18th at 5:30. You may find value by supporting other local businesses and share in their successes and help them to achieve their goals.
Enjoy the remainder of your summer and I would love to hear about your goals for the upcoming year.
Karen
