It was quite some time ago that Maple
Valley’s demographics caught the attention of Hugh Kodama of MultiCare; Maple
Valley’s population was comprised of a higher than average percentage of
youth. I believe it was in 2007 that
Hugh and I first sat down with the former city manager and began talking about
Hugh’s vision for MultiCare to be THE pediatric health care provider in the
greater Maple Valley-Black Diamond area. Hugh’s dream is becoming a reality with the
opening of MultiCare’s new facility in the Maple Valley Town Square at Four
Corners.
The facility is definitely
family and child-friendly. Some of the
examining rooms have toys built right in to the walls, a great distraction for
both children and parents. At the end of
one of the hallways are fun little touch-sensitive models of a little girl and
little boy that identify the internal organs such as the heart, liver, kidney,
lungs, and stomach. Other rooms have
large animal footprints on the floor.
The entire clinic is open, airy and very uncluttered making for a more
comfortable experience for all ages. The
uncluttered aspect of the clinic is due mainly to MultiCare’s complete
electronic health record system – there are no hanging clipboards and stacks of
charts. Each room is equipped with a
keyboard and monitor. All of MultiCare’s
outpatient clinics and hospitals are linked to the electronic system. The clinic services also include onsite
laboratory and imaging and staffing of two pediatricians.
The Open House and Ribbon
Cutting for the new clinic was last Thursday with the official opening this
Monday. MultiCare Health System
currently includes four hospitals and soon to be five: Tacoma General, Mary
Bridge Children’s Hospital, Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma and Good Samaritan in
Puyallup and the pending purchase for the Auburn Regional Medical Center. MultiCare also operates a network of primary,
specialty, and urgent care clinics in Auburn, Covington (including a new
Emergency Department), and Kent.
The address of the new clinic is
24080 SE Kent-Kangley Road (the southeast corner of the Town Square); phone
number 425.413.1310. For details and a
photo gallery of the open house, visit the chamber’s website and click on "MultiCare
Opens in Maple Valley Town Square.” The
chamber congratulates Hugh Kodama and his administrative and clinical staff, on
expanding the MutliCare Health System in Southeast King County.
